Setting up AutoMod
AutoMod monitors your server automatically for unwanted behaviour and responds according to your settings – from a simple warning through to a timeout or kick.
Requirement
For most AutoMod triggers that inspect message content, your bot needs the "Message Content Intent" (with custom bots you have to enable this yourself in the Discord Developer Portal, see the guide "Enabling intents").
Configuring rules
In the "AutoMod" area of your server you will find 22 ready-made triggers, including ones against spam, banned words, excessive mentions (mass mentions), invite links to other servers, caps flooding and repeated messages. Each trigger can be enabled independently and configured with its own thresholds (e.g. number of messages per time window).
Defining actions
For each rule you define what should happen when it is triggered: delete the message, issue a warning, timeout, kick or ban. Several actions can be combined, such as "delete message + warning".
Defining exceptions
For every rule you can specify roles and channels as exceptions – for example, so that your moderation team or an announcement channel with automated messages is not caught inadvertently.
Anti-nuke
In addition to the content-related rules, Cordavix monitors security-relevant actions in your server's audit log – such as mass kicks/bans, channel or role manipulation, as well as unexpected webhook or bot additions. When configurable thresholds are exceeded, automatic countermeasures kick in (e.g. removing roles and applying a timeout), and your team is notified. The server owner and configured exceptions are not affected by this.
Escalation levels for moderation
In the "Moderation" area you can additionally define how many warnings lead to which automatic consequence (e.g. third warning → timeout), including an expiry time for old warnings.
Practical tips
- Start with moderate thresholds and adjust them based on real-world
experience, rather than starting out very strictly straight away.
- Set up a log channel so that your team can follow up on AutoMod actions.
- Test new rules first with a test account or in a separate test server
before enabling them on your main community.
